Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 for clamping systems
Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 resists aggressive fluids at high temperatures and saves costs in the manufacturing of clamping systems.
A leading German manufacturer of heavy duty clamping systems for metals, plastics and rubber processing, has switched to DuPont™ Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 perfluoroelastomer parts to seal its hydraulic clamp range, with the goals of ensuring long-term resistance to highly aggressive Oemeta HF/DU hydraulic fluids at 250 °C, saving costs, and increasing the reliability of the system.
Other sealing solutions used in the same environment had to be replaced due to failure after only a few months, while Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 seals from DuPont have been in place for well over a year and a half to-date without problems, the manufacturer confirms. Since refitting with Kalrez®, the company has been able to significantly extend the service intervals of the pressure cylinders, resulting in cost savings and increased reliability of the clamping system. It also allows the company to offer its customers new application areas.
Heavy duty hydraulic clamping systems developed and produced by a leading German manufacturer are used to hold large hot dies in exact position on forging machines, and also to secure hot molds in injection molding equipment. The units are designed to handle pressures of up to 400 bar, and temperatures as high as 250 °C. Any leakage of the hydraulic fluid from up to six pistons applying clamp forces of 25–1250 kN is unacceptable. The seals used in those systems have to offer resistance to highly aggressive Oemeta HF/DU hydraulic fluids at 250 °C.
DuPont™ Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075: Optimal Fluid and Heat Resistance
According to the manufacturer, Oemeta HF/DU, an ester-based hydraulic fluid, contributes to the outstanding temperature performance and ensures low flammability of the pressure unit, while the superior heat and fluids resistance of Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 minimizes the risk of premature seal failure, and significantly reduces costly down-time.
Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 from DuPont is intended to set a new industry standard for severe chemical process industry (CPI) sealing applications. It offers even longer seal life than Kalrez® 4079, resulting from enhanced sealing force retention and higher thermal resistance up to 327 °C. Kalrez® Spectrum™ 7075 also offers broader chemical resistance and better cool down set recovery than Kalrez® 4079. In combination, these improvements translate into reduced downtime, lower maintenance costs, increased MTBR and higher yields for our customers.

Standard Kalrez® O-Ring Compounds
4079 perfluoroelastomer parts are a black, low compression set product for use in many dry and wet semiconductor process environments. It has excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical properties and outstanding thermal stability.
6375 is designed to give outstanding performance in the widest possible range of chemicals and temperatures. This product is an excellent choice for use in acids, bases, amines, steam, ethylene oxide, and many other aggressive chemicals.
7075 is designed for general-purpose use as O-rings or custom sealing components in the chemical and hydrocarbon processing industries. It is a carbon black-filled compound with mechanical properties designed for improved sealing performance in temperature cycling applications. 7075 has improved thermal resistance that extends maximum service temperature to 327 °C (620 F).
0090 perfluoroelastomer parts deliver durable, reliable sealing solutions for applications requiring excellent rapid gas decompression (RGD) properties as well as high hardness and high modulus properties. Some application areas include downhole equipment such as drilling and completion tools as well as industrial equipment including pumps and valves.
Specialty Kalrez® O-Ring Compounds
1050LF is a carbon black-filled product for O-rings, seals, and other parts used in chemical process industries. It has good hot water/steam, and excellent amine resistance. Kalrez® 1050LF is not recommended for use in organic acids, or inorganic acids at high temperatures.
6380 is a non-black product specifically developed for chemical processes involving hot, aggressive amines. It has also been successfully used in applications involving highly oxidizing chemicals. In addition, it has excellent overall chemical resistance. This cream colored product is easily identifiable when selecting an O-ring material for harsh chemical plant services.
7090 is a product for uses requiring higher hardness/higher modulus than more typical applications. Kalrez® 7090 perfluoroelastomer parts are well suited for both static and dynamic applications as well as specific sealing applications requiring extrusion resistance at high temperatures.
0040 -is a black product specifically designed for low temperature environments where significant chemical resistance is required. Kalrez® 0040 parts maintain elasticity and seal force at temperatures unattainable by other perfluoroelastomers.
