Achieve Excellent Performance in Crucial Applications with JM Clipper

Get excellent performance in the most demanding and crucial applications with Clipper Oil Seals.

Clippers seals are recommended for crucial applications because of their one-piece moulded constructions and the ability to provide application-specific designs if required.

The nonmetallic construction is the most distinctive characteristic of the Clipper oil seal. Aramid fibre and elastomer composite material replace the metal case that is typical with the conventional lip seals, which provides many advantages in some of the applications.

Benefits of JM Clipper Seals

What makes the JM Clipper seal one of a kind is that when we consider radial shaft seals, oil seals, we think about a metal can on the OD with a rubber component that has been moulded to it that acts as the sealing component. Sometimes it has a spring to help give the essential tension on the sealing lip – the necessary load – to permit it to work appropriately.

With the Clipper seal, you have a composite OD that is integral with and shaped with the elastomeric sealant element – likewise, it can have a spring for the additional load. Huge numbers of similar attributes as what the traditional metal seal would be. So a very robust seal, and it gives a lot of rather distinctive advantages and features from the ordinary oil seal.

  • Bear rough bore finishes while accommodating a broad range of bore tolerances: Flexible outer diameter functions as a gasket virtually eliminating the probability of leakage through the seal itself. The conditions of the surface of bore housings are often riddled with imperfections because of damage during incorrect seal installation and removal, or just due to cost sensitivity in their original manufacture. Metal can seal doesn’t have the ability to keep up to such imperfections, often requiring the use of additional gaskets or bore sealants during installation to prevent bore leakage.
  • No need for compression or bore plates: The flexible, composite elastomer heel has a slightly oversized outside diameter, which creates a tight interference press-fit and the need for compression plates for bore retention is eliminated by this tight fit and compression-set-resistant heel construction. It’s important to note that bore plates can cost as high as US$100 per inch of shaft diameter due to additional part cost and added assembly time.
  • Completely non-corrosive storage and service: Due to its composite elastomer heel and rubber elastomeric lip built, it eliminates the concern of rust or corrosion. 302 stainless steel garter spring is the only metal component. The stainless spring allows to handle higher operating temperatures and can resist rust/corrosion better than carbon steel springs utilized in other rotary shaft seals.
  • Long-Lasting, one-piece moulded construction: Clipper Oil Seal’s whole available size range (0.25” to 92”+ shaft diameters) has a one-piece moulded construction. This moulding process is stronger compared to metal case rotary seals built from multiple components that are glued and/or crimped together during assembly.
  • Resistant to issues arising from thermal expansion: Often thermal expansion cause sealing complications/problems in Metal case seals. For instance, think about what happens when interfacing a carbon steel metal case seal with aluminum housing in applications where large rapid temperature fluctuations occur. Aluminum housings expand at a different rate than the rotary lip seal’s carbon steel case; leaving you at risk of bore retention issues and/or failure due to leakage from the housing/seal OD interface.
  • No specialized tools or skills are required to take out and install: At the time of installation, Clipper’s flexible rubber heel prevents seal and component damage. Seal installation, aided by proper chamfering, needs only finger pressure to start the seal into the housing, followed by light tapping with a soft-faced mallet until flush. Issues related to installing rigid metal cans, such as damage due to cocking, are avoided. To further ease installation and save time, because the outer diameter conforms to bore imperfections as mentioned earlier, there’s no requirement to add — or wait for drying time of — bore sealants.
  • More than 5,000 pre-split sizes: Clipper seals are available in thousands of pre-slit sizes, which allows for immediate installation without the need for equipment uncoupling or disassembly.  This option is not there for metal case variants.
  • Interchangeable with the majority of the brands: These seals feature a standard size which allows them to be easily interchanged with the majority of brands, thus, allowing you to switch without any investment for equipment modification.
  • Highly customizable: A greater customization to fit specific design envelopes is possible due to the rubber moulding process. Flanges, buttons, mounting and bolt holes, etc. all can be added.

Applications

It has a wide range of applications including aircraft landing gear, military vehicles, pumps, mixers, fans, compressors, elevators, flywheels, crushers, underground mining machinery and roll chocks used in steel manufacturing.
