A Look Back at Daemar’s History
With all of the new things to look forward to in 2014, we have decided to reflect on how far we’ve come since our start in 1972. It was in that year, that a group of managers with Lyman Tube bought out the company’s fastener division. Daemar’s current president and CEO, William Pirie was a member of the management buyout team and has lead the company through numerous transitions and expansions.
Those who have been with us since the early days of business may recall a time when Daemar wasn’t actually Daemar just yet. In 1973, the company officially commenced business as Cartec, operating in Oakville, ON. Our original products included Waldes Retaining Rings, Seeger Metric Rings and Devan Keysteel. Over the years, our product line expanded to include Cleveland Hardware, KMC Stampings and Standard Steel Specialties. We would later enter the Fluid Sealing industry with the addition of O-Rings to our product catalogue. This too would later be expanded to include the oil seal line.
By 1980, we had entered Western Canada with the opening of a sales and warehouse facility in Edmonton, AB. Four years later, in 1984, we would undergo yet another re-brand, finally becoming Daemar – Distribution And Engineering Marketing. That year we also opened our Richmond, B.C. branch and added braided packing to our sealing product line.
From there, things began to really take off. Over the years we signed distribution agreements with Kalrez, Rotor Clip, Caplugs, JM Clipper seals and Protech Bearing Isolators. We also continued to increase our product offerings and our corporate footprint. In addition to our major presence in Canada, we entered the U.S. market as well, and are proud to serve as a competitive North American supplier of essential components for industry. Through all of the changes, we have maintained a commitment to quality and service, obtaining ISO-9002:1994 certification and staying on the cutting-edge of technology via our evolving web presence.
Thanks to our dedicated leadership and our loyal customers and partners, Daemar is proud to have celebrated our 40th year in business in 2013. We look forward to many more years of success ahead of us.
