Kalrez® O-Rings
(perfluoroelastomer)
The Seal to Trust for Tough Sealing Applications
For demanding sealing applications when customers require the very best. Kalrez® O-Rings manufactured only by DuPont™, are the elastomer seals of choice. Supplied in standard O-ring sizes or custom shapes, Kalrez® O-Rings resist over 1,800 different chemicals while offering the high temperature stability of PTFE (327°C). Advanced properties help maintain seal integrity, reduce maintenance and operating costs and improve safety. Kalrez® O-Rings provide reliable, long-term service with a wide range of aggressive industrial and electronic grade chemicals. It is used in highly aggressive chemical processing, semiconductor wafer processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas recovery, aerospace and petroleum applications. Production facilities for Kalrez® are ISO 9000 and AS 9100 registered.
Superior chemical resistance to more than 1,800 chemicals
Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer o-rings and parts have virtually universal chemical resistance. They withstand attack from more than 1,800 chemicals, solvents and plasmas. Standardizing on Kalrez® O-Ring products for broad chemical resistance reduces your need to keep multiple materials on the shelf, thus lowering cost of inventory.
Standard Kalrez® O-Ring Compounds
Kalrez® Compounds – 4079
4079 perfluoroelastomer parts are a black, low compression set product for use in many dry and wet semiconductor process environments. It has excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical properties and outstanding thermal stability. Kalrez® 4079 exhibits low weight loss in reactive plasmas and has good response to temperature cycling effects. It is not recommended for use in amines. A maximum continuous service temperature of 316 °C is suggested.Short excursions to higher temperatures are also possible. Ultrapure post-cleaning and packaging is optional.
Kalrez® Compounds – 6375
6375 is designed to give outstanding performance in the widest possible range of chemicals and temperatures. This product is an excellent choice for use in acids, bases, amines, steam, ethylene oxide, and many other aggressive chemicals. Mixed streams, once a problem for many chemical processors, can now be handled by 6375. The curing system also allows for a continuous upper service temperature of 275 °C (525 °F). This is approximately 100 °F higher than other products claiming broad chemical resistance. This high temperature stability translates to increased chemical resistance over all temperature ranges, especially if high temperature process excursions occur. This combination of chemical and thermal resistance provides advantages for chemical processors.
Kalrez® Compounds – 7075
7075 is designed for general-purpose use as O-rings or custom sealing components in the chemical and hydrocarbon processing industries. It is a carbon black-filled compound with mechanical properties designed for improved sealing performance in temperature cycling applications. 7075 has improved thermal resistance that extends maximum service temperature to 327 °C (620 F). It is not suggested for use in severe aqueous and amine applications where Kalrez® Spectrum™ 6375 remains the preferred compound. As always, we recommend the specific chemicals, service temperature and pressure be reviewed for the optimal compound selection in each application.
7075 offers very low compression set as measured by ASTM D395 to predict heat resistance. DuPont compression set testing extends the standard ASTM 70 hour protocol to include 336 and 672-hour compression set testing, which better predicts long-term O-ring performance. Lower compression set results in improved sealing and longer service life.
Kalrez® Compounds – 0090
0090 perfluoroelastomer parts deliver durable, reliable sealing solutions for applications requiring excellent rapid gas decompression (RGD) properties as well as high hardness and high modulus properties. Some application areas include downhole equipment such as drilling and completion tools as well as industrial equipment including pumps and valves. Kalrez® 0090 has been certified by two independent labs (see Table 2) to meet rigorous requirements for resistance to RGD. In addition to demonstrated RGD resistance, DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 seals have other chemical and temperature properties that provide superior performance.
Chemical resistance:
Kalrez® parts withstand attack by more than 1800 chemical substances. is a product for uses requiring higher hardness/higher modulus than more typical applications.090 can be resistant to sour multi-phase fluids containing H2S as shown by the external NORSOK M-710 Rev 2 Sour Fluid ageing resistance certification provided by MERL (UK).
Broad temperature capability:
Kalrez® 0090 retains high levels of resilience up to temperatures as high as 250 °C (482 °F) and down to –21 °C (–5.8 °F). Under pressurized sealing conditions, Kalrez® 0900 has demonstrated low temperature performance down to –40 °C (–40 °F) in customer laboratory tests*.
Specialty Kalrez® O-Ring Compounds
Kalrez® Compounds – 1050LF
1050LF is a carbon black-filled product for O-rings, seals, and other parts used in chemical process industries. It has good hot water/steam, and excellent amine resistance. Kalrez® 1050LF is not recommended for use in organic acids, or inorganic acids at high temperatures.
Kalrez® Compounds -6380
6380 is a non-black product specifically developed for chemical processes involving hot, aggressive amines. It has also been successfully used in applications involving highly oxidizing chemicals. In addition, it has excellent overall chemical resistance. This cream colored product is easily identifiable when selecting an O-ring material for harsh chemical plant services.
Kalrez® Compounds -7090
7090 is a product for uses requiring higher hardness/higher modulus than more typical applications. Kalrez® 7090 perfluoroelastomer parts are well suited for both static and dynamic applications as well as specific sealing applications requiring extrusion resistance at high temperatures. These specialty black parts have excellent thermal and mechanical properties, including excellent compression set and seal force retention, resistance to temperature cycling effects, and rapid gas decompression (RGD). Short excursions to higher temperatures may also be possible.
Kalrez® Compounds -0040
0040 -is a black product specifically designed for low temperature environments where significant chemical resistance is required. Kalrez® 0040 parts maintain elasticity and seal force at temperatures unattainable by other perfluoroelastomers.
